Mensa Textile Industry was established in 1972.
Within the year 1980, a weaving mill had started
production, and a dying-printing-heat setting
department had started production in 1982. This
way the company had become a wholly integrated
institution. As these investments were going on,
the partnership structure of Mensa Textile Industry
had also changed. İş Bankası (Turkish Work Bank)
increased its 81% share of the year 1978 much
more in time.
In 1996, Ulutaş
Textile Industry, which is a part of the Ulutaş
Company Group, demanded the 99.82% share of İş
Bankası. As a result of lengthy negotiations,
Mensa joined the Ulutaş Company Group on December
28th, 1996 An investment effort was started at
Mensa, in line with the mentality of the Ulutaş
Group.
This giant investment that continued until the
middle of 1999 and amounted to 70 million Dollars
had really started to give its fruits. This not
only developed Mensa's image in domestic and foreign
markets, but it also had a positive effect on
the company's financial statements. The company
had increased its dollar-based exports by 400%
between 1996 and 2001.
Mensa finds a top spot every year in the ISO 500
survey organized traditionally by the Istanbul
Chamber of Industry, and it is one of the biggest
200 integrated textile companies around the world.
Mensa also developed its customer portfolio,
thanks to this giant leap in its exports. It has become
the supplier of ready-made clothing brands known throughout
the world, such as IKEA, GAP, Liz Claiborn, Calvin Klein,
DKNY, Tommy Hilfiger, H&M, Zara, Otto's, Mexx and Finlover.
Mensa started doing business with IKEA, a Swedish firm
operating in the area of home textile & furniture and
which is one of the world's biggest firms, in the middle
of 1998.
Today the volume of home industrial waste water, solid
waste and gas waste has increased greatly as a result
of urbanization and industrialization, and it has become
necessary for the these wastes to be gotten rid of or
be recycled without causing harm to the natural environment.
There is no doubt that waste water refinery plants play
an important role in the refinery and recycling of waste
water. Mensa Textile Industry has activated a waste
water refinery plant, in accordance with its respect
to the nature. The automatically controlled refinery
plant is established on a 4,500 meters of open field
and is continuing to operate non-stop. Mensa proves
its sensitivity towards nature by the successful analysis
results it gets. Also chimney gas pollution is close
to zero, since naphta is being used as fuel.
The company is still continuing its expansion investments
which amount to around 2 million USD a year, and it
has activated its cogeneration plant in order to increase
its competition power and to adapt to changing market
conditions within the year 2001. The plant has an electricity
producing capacity of 85.2 million MVA annually; its
investment cost is 10 million Dollars, and it has reduced
Mensa's energy expenditures by 70%. Mensa is one of
the few companies in Turkey which produces its own electricity.
The principle 'Control is the basis at Mensa' has been
effective in stabilizing the company's productive identity.
The products are meticulously controlled in every phase
of the production. Mensa has the ISO 9001 certificate
since 1998.
At Mensa, which is a family with almost 2,000 members,
individuals are expected to be sensitive to the environment
and the society, to be in peace with themselves, to
have ethical values, to be young in spirit and dynamic.
The most valid principle at Mensa is "Investment to
People." Mensa constantly renews itself, and with its
investments since 1997, it has opened its doors to healthy
minds. Mensa provides internship opportunities to 150
students every year. The average age of a manager is
around 35 at Mensa.
The technology that gives Mensa the chance to produce its own electricity
without polluting the environment. Thanks to our Cogeneration technology, we
have high-quality and continuous energy. Cogeneration... The blood in Mensa's
veins. >>>
